Balikpapan – Balikpapan’s automotive market is getting a wider range of electrified vehicle options as more brands bring electric cars and hybrid models to regional exhibitions. The upcoming IIMS Garage Balikpapan 2026 will bring 15 automotive brands to Pentacity Mall from October 21 to 25, giving visitors an opportunity to explore different vehicle technologies in one location.
Organized by Dyandra Promosindo, the exhibition will feature nine passenger-car brands and six motorcycle brands. The participating car brands include BAIC, BYD, Chery, Geely, Honda, JAECOO, MG, Toyota, and Wuling.
Rather than focusing only on vehicle displays, the event highlights the growing variety of powertrain options available to Indonesian consumers. Battery electric vehicles, hybrid models, and conventional petrol cars will share the exhibition space, reflecting the different needs and preferences of buyers.
However, the growing presence of electrified models at an exhibition does not necessarily mean that electric vehicles already dominate Balikpapan’s market. Instead, it gives local consumers more opportunities to compare technologies before deciding which vehicle best fits their circumstances.
Electric Cars Expand the Choices Available to Buyers
Several participating brands will showcase electric vehicles that illustrate the expanding range of products available in Indonesia.
Geely will make its first appearance at IIMS Garage Balikpapan with the Geely EX2. JAECOO will display the J5 EV, while MG will bring the S5 EV. Wuling will present several models spanning its electric vehicle lineup, including the Air ev, Cloud EV, and Binguo EV, alongside the newer Darion and Eksion ranges in electric and plug-in hybrid configurations.
These products offer visitors a chance to explore different vehicle formats and approaches to electrification. Depending on the model, buyers may be considering a compact city car, an electric SUV, or a larger vehicle intended for family use.
For consumers, choosing an electric vehicle involves more than comparing purchase prices. Daily travel distances, access to charging facilities, parking arrangements, ownership costs, and intended use all influence whether an EV makes practical sense.
An exhibition can help buyers begin that assessment by allowing them to inspect vehicles, ask questions, and compare available features directly with sales representatives.
Hybrid Technology Remains Part of the Conversation
Battery electric vehicles are not the only electrified option at the event. Toyota will showcase eight hybrid electric vehicle models, including the Veloz and Zenix.
Hybrid electric vehicles combine an internal combustion engine with an electric motor and battery. Conventional hybrids recharge their batteries through the vehicle’s system and do not require external charging. This can make them an alternative for buyers who want electrification without relying on public charging infrastructure for routine use.
Toyota will also display a Veloz cutaway vehicle that exposes internal components. The demonstration is intended to help visitors understand vehicle construction and hybrid technology beyond what they can see from the outside.
The presence of both EVs and hybrids creates an opportunity for consumers to compare different approaches to electrification. Buyers who regularly travel longer distances or lack convenient charging access may evaluate hybrids differently from those who can charge an EV at home.
Neither option suits every driver. The right choice depends on driving habits, budget, vehicle requirements, and the availability of supporting infrastructure.
Promotions May Influence Purchase Decisions
Alongside the expanding range of vehicle technologies, participating brands will offer promotions during the exhibition.
Honda plans to present the BR-V E MT with financing offers that include a down payment starting at Rp10 million, financing terms of up to eight years, and a fuel voucher worth Rp5 million, subject to applicable conditions.
Chery will promote its Q Rizz + Sigma Package at Rp294.8 million. MG will also present offers for the MG VS HEV and petrol-powered MG ZS, with prices starting at Rp299 million for the models covered by the announcement.
IIMS Garage Balikpapan will additionally introduce an IIMS Garage Cashback program with a total value of up to Rp150 million. Eligible visitors who place vehicle orders can participate under the program’s terms and conditions.
These offers may attract buyers who are already considering a new vehicle. However, consumers should compare the complete purchase terms rather than focusing only on headline discounts.
Monthly payments, total financing costs, warranty coverage, servicing requirements, and the final on-the-road price can all affect the long-term value of a deal.
Test Drives Offer a More Practical Comparison
IIMS Garage Balikpapan will also provide test-drive and test-ride activities, allowing visitors to experience selected vehicles before making a purchase decision.
For electric and hybrid vehicles, a test drive can help buyers assess acceleration, braking response, cabin comfort, visibility, and driving characteristics. It also offers an opportunity to ask questions about charging, fuel consumption, maintenance, and warranty coverage.
These practical considerations matter because vehicle specifications alone cannot fully describe the ownership experience. A car that looks suitable on paper may feel different in everyday traffic or when carrying passengers.
Visitors should confirm which models are available for test drives and whether advance registration is required.
Regional Exhibitions Bring Automotive Choices Closer to Consumers
The presence of 15 automotive brands makes IIMS Garage Balikpapan an opportunity for visitors to explore a broad range of vehicles without visiting multiple showrooms.
The event will also feature family activities, a cosplay competition, and community programs supported by the Ikatan Motor Indonesia in Balikpapan and the Indonesia Offroad Federation in East Kalimantan.
These activities extend the exhibition beyond vehicle transactions and create additional opportunities for brands to engage with local communities.
For Balikpapan’s consumers, the main value lies in having more products and technologies available for direct comparison. As electrified vehicles become a more visible part of automotive exhibitions, buyers can evaluate how these options fit their budgets, driving routines, and access to infrastructure.
IIMS Garage Balikpapan 2026 will take place at Pentacity Mall from October 21 to 25. Its mix of electric vehicles, hybrids, conventional cars, and motorcycles provides a snapshot of the choices currently being presented to regional buyers.
Whether these displays translate into stronger long-term demand for electrified vehicles will depend on factors beyond the exhibition itself, including vehicle prices, charging access, ownership costs, and consumer confidence.
