Jakarta – Indonesia will host the global debut of MINI GT’s first Toyota AE86 casting at Indonesia Modification & Lifestyle Expo (IMX) 2026. The new collectible will make its world premiere at the event in ICE BSD City from October 9–11, 2026.
The model is a Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 in Keiichi Tsuchiya’s “Shokunin Green” edition. It will become the MINI GT IMX Exclusive Event Car 2026.
For Indonesian collectors, the release carries significance beyond its limited event status. This is the first AE86 casting produced by MINI GT, making its debut in Indonesia before the casting reaches other global releases.
The decision also puts Indonesia in the spotlight within the international diecast community. It shows the growing connection between the country’s automotive culture, diecast collectors and global model-car brands.
MINI GT’s First AE86 Casting
The Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 has a strong connection with automotive culture and drifting. The IMX 2026 edition also has a direct link to Keiichi Tsuchiya, the Japanese driver widely known as the “Drift King.”
Tsuchiya will appear as one of the main guests at IMX 2026. His connection with the AE86 makes the new MINI GT model particularly relevant to fans of both the car and its racing history.
The collectible uses a 1:64 scale. MINI GT has selected the Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 as the basis for its first AE86 casting.
For collectors, the timing is important. The IMX edition gives them an opportunity to obtain the model at its first public appearance before the casting moves into future releases for the global market.
An Exclusive IMX Event Car
MINI GT will offer the AE86 as the IMX Exclusive Event Car 2026. The package combines the diecast model with a limited Keiichi Tsuchiya T-shirt.
The package costs Rp1.2 million. Visitors can purchase it at the Toyota Gazoo Racing booth during IMX 2026.
Availability will depend on remaining stock throughout the three-day event.
The release therefore combines several elements that matter to collectors. It has a new casting, an exclusive event edition, a connection with a well-known figure in drifting and a world premiere location.
That combination can give an event-exclusive diecast a different appeal from a regular retail release.
Indonesia’s Growing Diecast Culture
The world premiere also highlights the role of Indonesia’s collector community.
IMX has increasingly brought together modified cars, automotive brands, builders, collectors and lifestyle communities. Diecast has become another part of that ecosystem.
The MINI GT AE86 adds an international dimension to the event. Instead of simply bringing an existing model to Indonesian collectors, the event will host the first appearance of a new casting.
Andre Mulyadi, Project Director of IMX, described the world premiere as a source of pride for Indonesia’s diecast community.
He said Indonesia is not only a market for the global diecast industry but has also been selected as the location for the global debut of MINI GT’s first AE86 casting.
The choice of the AE86 also carries cultural significance. The model has a strong connection with automotive culture and the story of Keiichi Tsuchiya.
Where Automotive Culture Meets Diecast Collecting
The MINI GT IMX Exclusive Event Car also reflects the relationship between full-size cars and miniature collectibles.
IMX 2026 will bring real automotive culture and diecast collecting together at the same event. The AE86 provides a clear example of how a full-size automotive icon can continue its cultural presence through a 1:64 model.
For collectors, the appeal is not limited to the physical size of the model. The story behind the casting, its connection with Tsuchiya and its first appearance in Indonesia all become part of the collectible’s identity.
IMX has previously developed exclusive event cars that attracted attention from diecast enthusiasts. The 2026 release continues that tradition with a model that carries an additional distinction: it is the first AE86 casting in MINI GT’s lineup.
A Global Debut in Indonesia
The MINI GT AE86 world premiere gives IMX 2026 a notable place in the model’s release history.
The event will take place at Hall 1, 2 and 3 of ICE BSD City from October 9–11, 2026. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the new casting and purchase the exclusive package while supplies last.
For Indonesian collectors, the significance goes beyond being among the first to buy a new model. They will see a MINI GT casting make its first public appearance in their home market.
As the AE86 casting eventually moves toward other releases around the world, its first chapter will remain connected to Indonesia and IMX 2026.
That makes the MINI GT IMX Exclusive Event Car 2026 more than another 1:64 release. It represents a moment when Indonesia’s automotive and collecting communities become part of the global launch story for a new diecast casting.
