Jakarta – Indonesia Modification & Lifestyle Expo (IMX) 2026 is preparing to deliver a different kind of motorsport experience as the event introduces IMX Underground Drift, bringing international-scale drifting action into the basement of ICE BSD.
Held from October 9–11, 2026, at ICE BSD in Tangerang, Indonesia, IMX 2026 “Next Gen Culture” will stage the Underground Drift spectacle on Saturday, October 10, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. WIB. For the first time, IMX is bringing a dedicated drifting spectacle into the venue’s basement area, creating an atmosphere rarely experienced at a conventional automotive event.
The concept is particularly notable because underground drifting has become strongly associated with automotive culture and movies, including the iconic visual language popularized by the Tokyo Drift era. At IMX 2026, however, audiences will have the opportunity to experience the sound, movement, and intensity of drift cars directly rather than through a screen.
Japanese Drift Legends Meet Indonesian Drivers
One of the biggest attractions of IMX Underground Drift will be the appearance of several major names from Japan’s drifting scene.
The event will feature Keiichi Tsuchiya, widely known as the “Drift King,” alongside professional racing driver Nobuteru Taniguchi and Takahiro Ueno, founder of the renowned Vertex tuning brand.
Their participation gives the event an international dimension while also highlighting the deep connection between Japanese automotive culture and Indonesia’s growing modification and drifting scene.
The Japanese icons will share the spotlight with Indonesian drivers including Dipo Garasi Drift, Kingston, Anindita Hidayat, and Danny Ferdito. Their participation is expected to create a unique meeting point between established international figures and local talent.
For Indonesian enthusiasts, the event offers more than an opportunity to watch professional drivers perform. It also represents an interaction between different generations and cultures within the global drifting community.
Andre Mulyadi, Project Director of IMX, said the Underground Drift concept was prepared as one of the special surprises for this year’s event.
“IMX Underground Drift” is designed to bring the atmosphere of Japanese drifting culture into a completely different setting. According to Andre, seeing Japanese drift legends perform alongside Indonesia’s top talents inside the ICE BSD basement will create a memorable experience for automotive enthusiasts.
Iconic Drift Cars Could Take Over the Basement
The drivers will not be the only attraction.
IMX Underground Drift is expected to feature several iconic performance cars associated with drifting and Japanese automotive culture. Potential cars include the legendary Toyota AE86 and Nissan Silvia S15, two models that have become deeply connected with the global drift scene.
The Toyota AE86, in particular, has become one of the most recognizable cars in Japanese automotive culture. Its lightweight character, rear-wheel-drive layout, and connection to Japan’s mountain-road culture helped establish its reputation among enthusiasts long before drifting became a global motorsport phenomenon.
The Nissan Silvia S15 represents another important chapter in Japanese drift culture. With its rear-wheel-drive platform and extensive tuning potential, the S15 has become a favorite among professional and grassroots drifters around the world.
But one of the most unusual cars expected to attract attention at IMX 2026 is the Drift Bull Lamborghini Murcielago.
Originally designed as a high-performance V12 supercar, the Murcielago is being transformed into a dedicated drift machine by Garasi Drift. The project is described as the largest and most expensive build in the history of Garasi Drift and is scheduled to make its world premiere at IMX 2026.
If the Drift Bull appears as planned, audiences will see an unusual combination of Italian supercar heritage and drift-oriented engineering.
A Different Way to Experience Motorsport
The location itself could become one of the defining aspects of the event.
Rather than using a conventional outdoor circuit, IMX Underground Drift will take place inside the Hall 1–2 ICE BSD basement. The enclosed environment is expected to create a very different sensory experience, particularly when high-performance drift cars begin making their runs.
The combination of engine noise, tire smoke, tight surroundings, and close proximity to the action could make the experience feel significantly different from watching drifting from conventional grandstands.
At the same time, IMX has emphasized that access to the basement drift area will be limited according to available capacity. This restriction is intended to support safety and visitor comfort during the event.
Another notable point is that visitors do not need to purchase a separate ticket specifically for Underground Drift. Anyone holding an IMX 2026 admission ticket will be able to experience the spectacle, subject to the capacity restrictions at the drift area.
Bridging Japanese and Indonesian Automotive Culture
Beyond the spectacle itself, IMX Underground Drift represents the continuing influence of Japanese automotive culture on Indonesia’s modification scene.
